How To Measure Your Windows For Blinds:
1. Use a metal measuring tape
To eliminate unnecessary errors as much as possible, always use a metal measuring tape when taking your window measurements. Plastic and cloth tapes may stretch when you are pulling them from one side to the other, giving an incorrect measurement. Additionally, if you have some slack in your tape, you’ll also end up with the wrong dimension.
2. Measure in millimetres (mm)
Most industries take their measurements in millimetres, and you should too when preparing to measure your windows for any new blind installation. Measuring to the last millimetre ensures you supply as near as exact measurements when getting a quote for your custom or ready-made blinds
3. Be exact
Being as accurate as possible is vital when measuring your windows, especially if you’re installing inside-mounted blinds. While a couple of millimetres may seem trivial, they can make all the difference between a good or bad fit.
Measuring For Inside-Mounted Blinds
If you want to position your blinds within the window frame, you will need to measure from the inside edge of the frame. Inside-mounted blinds provide a neat, clean-cut look and help highlight a beautiful window frame.

1. Width (A, B, C)
Measure the width of your window in three places – top, middle and bottom. You want to use the exact width of your window, no more, no less. Whichever reading provides the narrowest width, use that. Avoid making any deductions of your own. Leave that to the professionals.
2. Height (D, E, F)
Similar to the width, you will need to take three measurements for the height – left side, middle, and right side. Select the shortest measurement.
3. Depth
To ensure your window provides an ample recess for the headrail of your blinds, always measure the depth too. That way, our consultants can advise you on the best blinds for your space.
Measuring For Outside-Mounted Blinds
Outside-mounted blinds might be necessary if you don’t have the depth for an inside-mount, or if you want to add length to your window. To cover your window frame, you will need to measure additional space around your window. We recommend a minimum of thirty-five millimetres on each side, and top and bottom.

1. Width (A, B, C)
Measure the width of your window, frame included, in three locations (top middle, bottom) and select the longest measurement. Don’t forget to include additional space on each side.
2. Height (D, E, F)
Your height measurement should start from the top of where your proposed headrail will sit, and continue to the base of the sill. Again, measure in three places (left, middle, right) and choose the longest measurement.
